The MAVIN Foundation helps build healthy communities that celebrate and empower mixed heritage people, transracial and transnational adoptees, and families. Its projects explore the experiences of mixed heritage people, transracial adoptees, interracial relationships, and multiracial families. The Foundation was established in 2000 and has developed projects that include publication of the Multiracial Child Resource Book, the Generation Mix National Awareness Tour, documented in the film Chasing Daybreak, and together with the Association of Multiethnic Americans an online clearinghouse of resources and information directed at the mixed heritage community. Between 2001-2006, MAVIN recruited 12,000 new prospective donors, 26% of mixed heritage backgrounds and about 42% from racial/ethnic minority groups. Presently, MAVIN’s work has evolved from direct services to making community referrals for BMT donor recruitment, and focusing on education and equity-related policy work in the field. |
